Discord is known for the fact that you can create massive group chats quickly and easily. And by massive, we mean thousands of people. Of course, you don’t need to have so many people, it can be just a few friends, but either way, this kind of chat is known as a Server. Discord makes the creation of servers incredibly easy, and you can have as many as you’d like, or at least be a part of as many as you’d like.
To create a server, on the left side of the screen press the Plus sign in the circle. Discord will walk you through the process of making that server. You will choose a name for the server, as well as a picture, and where the server is located. Try to choose a server that is close to either you or all your friends, so that they can send messages faster.
At the top of the page, you will see your newly created Discord Server name. Click it, and you’ll have a new menu of options. You can modify the settings of the server, including creating new chat channels, voice call channels, change notifications, and finally invite people. Clicking invite people will generate a link for you to use. You can select if it will expire or not. In any case, anyone who clicks that link can join your server, so we personally like to select the “Never Expire” option, then send it to all our friends. Once that link is clicked, the discord app will open on that person’s computer or phone, or in the browser. If they do not have an account, they will be prompted to enter a username and join.
To join a discord server, you guessed it. You need to get the link from someone. Clicking the link is the easiest way to join a server, but you can also click the plus sign as if you were creating a server, then selecting the option to join a server. You will need the invite code or a link to do so. Once you’re in, you’re all set to chat with people in that server!
