Adding Friends on WeChat involves adding contacts to the WeChat app, then messaging them. So naturally, to add a contact, you must first go to the ‘Contacts’ tab in the app.
From the Contacts tab, at the top right corner, there will be a little plus symbol. Tap or click that, then input the contact you would like to add. This can be a WeChat ID (set from the profile) or a phone number. If your contact uses Tencent QQ, then you can add them through that as well. Most people will likely not use QQ unless they are Chinese, so the ID or phone number are usually solid starts. You can always ask your contact how to add them and they will send you one of these things. It doesn’t matter at the end of the day.
To let people add you as a contact, send them your information, whether it be QQ, Phone Number or ID. You will receive a notification and you can add that user from there.
Shake your phone
There is one more way to add new friends, and that’s with the ‘Shake’ feature. You can discover new people by shaking your phone. WeChat will match you with someone shaking their phone at the exact same time. This is a great way to meet new people and network. To enable this feature, go to the Discover tab and press the ‘Shake’ button. WeChat will walk you through the process once more, and you will be matched with someone new!
